Over the past year, Hannah Smith Design has been growing and expanding in the Raleigh/Durham - Chapel Hill market for design services. After weeks of keeping this a secret, we are excited to finally share that here at the Studio we will be gaining our first design intern on March 1, 2016!! Below, you will find a little Q&A with Nicole.
Please welcome her in joining the HSD team!
What is your name? Nicole Michael
Where are you from?
Where did you study Interior Design?
Meredith College, Raleigh NC
What inspired you to study Interior Design?
My dad owns a masonry company so I have grown up around construction and design, I developed a love for design from this and my parents encouraged me to pursue it.
Did you study abroad?
I studied abroad in Italy, summer 2015. I took an interior architecture and design class whileI was there.
My favorite color has always been blue.
What do you look forward to more: commercial / residential?
There are definitely aspects I enjoy about both. For commercial, I really love using AutoCad and Revit to space plan and develop designs. For residential, I like being a little more creative and being able to work with living spaces for families.
What are your strengths?
I would definitely say that Revet and AutoCad are some of my strengths, I also work hard when space planning to make sure that I have come up with the best possible layout and design for projects so I have become very strong at this.
Why are you excited to join Hannah Smith Design?
I am excited to join Hannah Smith Design because I have had commercial internships but haven’t had a lot of experience in Residential. I am also excited to shadow Hannah and see the “real” side of design and not just working on projects at school.
Hobbies and Background?
I am with my family and friends during my free time. I enjoy going to the lake, beach, and just being outdoors. I am a Christian. I love shopping, movies, and working out. I also love to travel.
What inspires you? Motivates you? (colors, patterns, textures, countries etc.... )
I am really inspired by patterns and textures. I love that you can use these in many different aspects of the design process.
What is your favorite stye?
I don’t really have a favorite style. I love working with all styles and push myself to work with ones that I may not be as comfortable with.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would that be?
I definitely want to see the northern lights at some point. I love cities that have amazing Architecture. I also hope to go back to Italy in the future.
